Newborn Hearing Screening Sites
Newborn hearing screening is conducted before the baby is discharged from the hospital or birthing site. The two civilian birthing sites on Guam are located at the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) and Sagua Mañågu Birthing Center, both located in the village of Tamuning.
Hearing Screening Sites
The following locations can perform hearing screening:
- Northern Region Health Center – Dededo (Ph: 635-7424/64)
- Central Region Health Center – Mangilao (Ph: 735-7121/7109)
- Southern Region Health Center – Inalajan (Ph: 828-7515/6)
Early Intervention Services Site
Guam Early Intervention System (GEIS) performs hearing evaluations if the baby does not pass hearing screening at the birthing sites, to determine if the baby has a hearing loss.
If a baby is identified with a hearing loss, it is important to receive early intervention services as soon as possible. The GEIS, under the Guam Department of Education, provides services to young children, ages birth to three, who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities, and their families. A baby who is identified with a hearing loss is eligible for early intervention services. GEIS offices are located at Oceanview Middle School campus in the village of Agat. (Ph: 300-5776 / 5816)
