GUAM EHDI Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Inside fold of the brochure: Hafa Adai, The Guam Family Support Group for children with hearing loss was formed in 2004 with the support of the Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (Guam EHDI) Project. Through the years we have been working together to help each other find solutions to the challenges we face. We have also had opportunities to learn from professionals that offer services which support our childrenÕs needs. As parents of children with hearing loss, we have experienced much of what you may be going through. Together we can help your family work toward your goals for your child. We are here to help you connect with the services you need. WEÕVE BEEN THERE and we know itÕs not easy. Why Early Intervention is Important Language develops very quickly in the early years of life. It is the foundation for all learning. If newborns have hearing loss and are diagnosed early, effective intervention is available to help them achieve typical or nearly typical speech, language, and hearing milestones. Our Mission To offer support by sharing our experiences with parents of children who were diagnosed with hearing loss. Together we will work to achieve the dreams we have for our children. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to talk, we welcome your call. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you. Photo of Mom and son sitting on her lap laughing. Contact Us! (bulleted list of five items) * Your child seems to hear some of the time and then not respond at other times. * Your child moves one ear forward when listening, or he complains that he can only hear out of his good ear. * Your child starts to speak more loudly than previously. Your child looks at you intensely when you speak to him, as if concentrating (He may be depending more on visual cues for interpreting speech). * Your childÕs grades fall or the teacher notes that he doesnÕt seem to hear or respond as well in the classroom as the other children. If you suspect that your child may have a hearing loss, contact your family doctor or pediatrician. A referral to an audiologist may be needed.
