- A “pass” result means your baby does not need further testing. Parents or guardians should continue to track their child’s hearing at each well-baby checkup and during the school years.
- A “refer” result means your baby will need a diagnostic audiological evaluation (DAE) by a pediatric audiologist, or someone experienced with children, and receive a referral to early intervention services.
- An “incomplete” result can mean a few things:
- Your baby was screened, and the screener (AABR) did not provide a “pass” or “refer” result.
- Your baby needs a follow-up hearing rescreen. The birth center should give your baby a follow-up hearing screening appointment.
- Your baby did not get a hearing screening at birth due to an ear abnormality, such as no opening in the ear. See your child’s pediatrician and ask for a referral for your baby to see an audiologist for a DAE by a pediatric audiologist or one experienced with children.
